Welcome to the 2015-16 Rotary YearWelcome to the 2015-16 Rotary YearPresident Magic Mike Ferris here. I am super excited for this year as President of Anchorage South Rotary. I love our club and want to see it grow. The three areas of focus I have this year are Membership, Involvement, and Projects.
Membership - We need to continuously invite new members. The new members we have do a fantastic job of bringing energy to the club and excitement to get involved. We need to retain our current members by getting them engaged. To achieve this I am dedicating one Thursday a month to be a Social meeting. These are great tools for allow us to get to know one another. Another way is small group gatherings/firesides. We had a few of these last year and they were a lot of fun. Involvement - In order to grow this club we need to keep members involved and engaged. Committee Chairs need to no longer be a committee of 1. Yes it may be easier but it is not benefiting the members of the club. Part of Rotary is the Life learning experience along the way. Being a committee of 1 doesn't allow others to learn from you or feel like they are contributing to the club. So reach out and ask for help. The goal is to have each committee have a minimum of 3 people. The past chair, the present chair, and the future chair. This will allow for people to mentor each other into the role. Projects - We did a lot of projects this last year. They were fun and didn't require a lot of time. Relay for Life was a 2 hour commitment, the Chinook Long Jump we started with coffee and were done by Brunch, and then Mothers Day flowers was 2 hours of passing out flowers. We need more of these small projects, Michael Archer has Slamming Salmon where ASR will take a 2-4 hour block. Bring your project ideas to someone on the board, think about them and be specific (What, When, and How). Again I look forward to this year. President Magic Mike Ferris |
